When the World Ends, Let Me Know

I don’t watch the news, read the newspaper, or listen to the radio. When I see the flag flying lower on the pole I don’t know who died. Yet despite all this I still catch wind of enough things to know that some people see these presidential elections as some final chance for America to redeem herself spiritually. I know America’s spiritual health stinks, I won’t deny it, but I’d like to add, that the Lord is still on the same throne that He’s been on since the beginning of time and He is still at work in America and around the world. So before we call out the Y2K panic, and stock up on canned green beans because Christ is coming back tomorrow, let’s just stop and remember what Truth says.

20 “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,
For wisdom and might are His.
21 And He changes the times and the seasons;
He removes kings and raises up kings;
He gives wisdom to the wise
And knowledge to those who have understanding.
22 He reveals deep and secret things;
He knows what is in the darkness,
And light dwells with Him.
Daniel 2:20-22

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6”31-34

36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
Matthew 24:36

I was recently watching a history show and they started talking about the years of prohibition. In the 1920’s the United States government made alcohol illegal. This experiment that only made it to the early 1930’s, proved that government cannot control the fleshly desires of man. Only Jesus Christ can save man.
Certainly I would like it better if more people in America were following Christ with full abandonment, and if Truth was restored to its full authority in the church, but to think that our nation is hopeless just isn’t true. The Lord is still at work in the way He’s always been. One person at a time.
There’s a Christmas song by 4Him called A Strange Way to Save the World and it says:

Why me, I'm just a simple man of trade
Why Him, with all the rulers in the world
Why here inside this stable filled with hay
Why her, she's just an ordinary girl
Now I'm not one to second guess what angels have to say
But this is such a strange way to save the world

He has chosen to use us. He has made our lives His inroad to the lives of those around us. I recently got to see this first hand when I had the opportunity to share the gospel with a research partner via email. Through that experience, I realized the great lengths the Lord had gone to in order that He might be able to speak to this girl.
But it’s not just me.
I know a man who is sharing Christ with people at city night clubs.
A surgeon who offers to pray with families before surgery.
A woman who is opening her home to sick orphans and showing them their loving Father.
A man who travels to Eastern Europe every few months to strengthen and encourage young church planters and pastors.
A woman who spends hours in pray unknown to anyone.
A couple who are giving their lives so that their children may have one.
A public school teacher who is pouring the love of Christ over her class.

And the list could go on and on. The remnant is at work here for Christ just as it is all over the world, in the back alleys, homes, schools, hospitals, and hearts of people.
A president is going to be elected, Jesus Christ is still going to be on  the throne and I’m going to be out in the fields working, working alongside all the other hired hands, because the harvest is still ripe and night has not yet come.

"Praise the Lord"
