The other day I was out playing mini golf with my mom and siblings. I had a great start and felt I was on my way to my best score yet! Then we reached a hole with a BIG hill. My sisters had struggled a little on the previous holes and we had given them "do-overs" that didn't count toward their score. It was mini golf, no one takes it that seriously... right? Well, I could not get up that big hill. After 3 tries I finally made it feeling a little disappointed about my "best game" yet score. My group told me I didn't have to count two of those strokes. I should have been thrilled. That would put me back in the running for getting my best score yet! Instead, I felt like it wouldn't count. My great low score wouldn't "really" be true. Immediately, the Lord touched my heart with a parallel. Jesus went to the cross so I could get my "best score" ever! But would I humble myself to accept His mercy? 19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. Psalm 105:19 KJV One of my favorite movies is National Treasure . I love the history, mystery, and intricate plot. My sisters and I watched it last night, and as I watched I considered how much this movie could relate to life. If you’ve ever received a promise from the Lord (and I don’t mean just the ones in the Bible) but a promise for you and your life from Him, then you may know what I’m talking about. Yet there is only one word that links us from our present physical realm to this unseen gift. Just like the little boy Ben in the movie, when we first receive this promise, we listen in wonder at the magnificent story and our eyes are aglow with the adventure before us, but ever so quickly the voice of the seen call...
This afternoon I decided to go for a hike in the foothills. It was a beautiful day, just perfect for hiking. I hadn’t gone very far when I met someone on the path. This little old lady with her cane stepped off to the side to let me by. I smiled at her and she said with a laugh, “We both know we can do it but is it worth it?” I laughed as I passed and considered her statement for several minutes before it slipped from my mind and I continued with delight at the adventure of trying the new trail I’d found. I hiked in quite a ways before I decided it was getting time to turn back. By the time I reach the car my legs were sore but I was too tickled at the fun time I’d had to consider them. It wasn’t until I was driving away that I remembered that lady’s words from earlier and the Lord asked me if it was worth it? I needed not a second to give my joyous reply, “Yes!” I had chosen to go hiking, sure I got a little sore, had to breath heavy a few times, and got scared by a bike coming around...
