Is there Room in Your Heart?

Is there room in your heart?
Is there room in your heart?
Is there room in your heart for God to write His story?

For the last week or better I've been waking up in the morning with this line from the Casting Crowns Christmas song Make Room running through my head.

When a song keeps coming to me, whether on the radio, my itunes, or in my head every morning I start to pay attention. What is the Lord trying to say?

I've currently been working on the third novel in my new book series and I've really been struggling with it. So the line Is there room in your heart for God to write His story resonates with me at a slightly different level than most.

If He's asking this question I assume the answer must be "no" or He would have no reason to bring it up. But why? Why isn't there room in my heart?

I can say the theme the Lord picked for this book was not my favorite idea, but I have been obedient to do as He's asked. Like a good soldier I'm here for the sake of duty and I'm willing to pay the price to complete this mission. But... I don't feel anything for the people we're speaking out for.

This is odd for me, I'm an advocate and can seem to get passionately behind just about anything! Once I'm aware of the need. But no matter how many statistics I read or personal stories I hear I feel cold toward this situation.

The story this song is based from is the inn keeper who had no room for Joseph and Mary the night Jesus was born. Now I've heard this story in the message of making room for Jesus in your life many times over. Matthew 25:34-40 is my passion! Treating others as if they were Christ Himself is one of my greatest desires.

...I was a stranger and you took Me in...
Matthew 25:35

So since my heart is normally such an open door to strangers and their needs, I came to only one conclusion. Are there certain people I don't have room in my heart for?
I'm open to a lot of people, a lot of needs, a lot of problems, but...

Who don't I have room in my heart for?

Who, when I open the door, do I not have love for?
Who when I hear their plea do I not have mercy and compassion for?
Who do I have the excuse, my heart is too full for you and I turn away?
Who do I close the door on?

That one knocking is ready to have Jesus born into their lives.

Is there room in your heart?

The closing line of this song is almost a haunting one as it echoes the call, the plea. Will we heed it?

Make room in your heart
Make room in your heart
Make room in your heart
Make room in your heart
