Blackout

Last night I was sitting in my room listening to some music and writing an e-mail to a friend when all of sudden there was a loud beep and everything instantly went silent and dark. I waited a few seconds in expectation of the second beep that would announce the return of the power but it didn’t happen. After a minute of waiting I decided to go upstairs and have a snack assuming the power would be on soon. I didn’t know it but it would be over an hour before the power would be restored and in the mean time I was forced to try and do my nightly routine in the dark with a flashlight. I then just went to bed for there really is little that can be done in the dark with no power! As usual though, this strange situation caused me to ask the Lord in my dark and silent room, “What can we learn from this?” I then considered what we’d lost: Light and Power . Who do I know that’s light? Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in d

Great is Your Faithfulness!

Faithful By Steven Curtis Chapman (Beauty will Rise) I am broken, I am bleeding, I’m scared and I’m confused, But You are faithful, Yes You are faithful, I am weary in believing, God please help my unbelief, ‘Cause You are faithful, Yes You are faithful, I will proclaim it to the world, I will declare it to my heart I’ll sing it when the sun is shining, I will scream it in the dark, You are faithful, You are faithful, When You give and when You take away, Even then still Your name is faithful, You are faithful, And with everything inside of me, I am choosing to believe, You are faithful, I am waiting for the rescue, That I know is sure to come, ‘Cause You are faithful, Yes You are faithful, And I’ve dropped anchor in Your promises and I’m holding on, ‘Cause You are faithful, God, You are faithful, I will proclaim it to the world, I will declare it to my heart I’ll sing it when the sun is shining, I will scream it in the dark, You are faithful, You are faithful, When You give and when

I Won't let You Fall

I went hiking in the foothills again today and as usual something strange happened, well actually it was something fairly common but the outcome surprised me. On my way back I rounded a hairpin corner and started down the steep incline. I’d only taken a couple steps when my right foot began to slip on some loose rocks (slipping is very common when you’re coming down hill,) I couldn’t regain myself though and began falling backward. Then halfway to the ground something strange happened, my rapid backward descent suddenly changed directions as if someone had pushed me from behind and I found myself flying forward. I quickly stuck my hands out and caught myself. I then stood up and brushed my hands off unscathed. I thanked the Lord for catching me and He gently assured me He wouldn’t let me fall. I recently posted some about the adventure of just Being. (A Fist Full of Car Key’s) As I’ve walked this road of Being I’ve found desires in my heart that for the first time are being brought

A Fist Full of Car Keys

Today I was playing with my littlest sisters. Abby (2)  brought out the play doctor bags. (Which I think have also gone as purses for they each had a set of car keys!) Having had several surgeries for her cleft lip and palate, Chick (Alexis) (3) is very experienced “in the medical field” and thus found a thermometer (though I’m sure it was imagined to be another tool) and she come over to me and said “Open mouth.” I did as she asked, for I figure she’s opened her mouth for plenty of people I might as well give her the chance to see what’s in there too. When she was satisfied she stepped aside and Abby charged over with a fist full of plastic car keys, holds it up to my face, she said “Open mouth.”! The only opening of my mouth for that was in laughing.   Once I left, this humorous play session captured my thinking. How often do we ourselves do this? We were created in the image of God, yet unique from anyone who’s ever been or ever will be. Still somehow we think we will l
