You Were There

I was recently watching some home video I took the other day of the kids doing an obstacle course that I had set up for my lesson on the Olympics. When they had all finished and had won their gold medals I played them the National Anthem. As soon as it started to play the song, Alexis stood up a little straighter put her hands behind her back and smiled with radiance. I started the video camera and recorded them listening to the song and Alexis’ precious response. Tonight I went to watch that clip only to find out with great disappointment that I apparently had not hit the record button and I didn’t actually have that footage. I sat looking blankly at my computer screen with sad frustration for having not attained that beautiful scene. Then ever so softly a thought came to me, “You didn’t miss it, you were there.” I remember when I was 14 and my family came out on vacation to Colorado. I had never seen a mountain in my life. I took rolls of pictures but no matter how hard I t

Superman!

A week or so ago we were working at a middle aged couples house and every morning the man would pick up his briefcase and say to his wife.  “Well, I’m off to save the world!” Then he’d leave the house with a spring in his step and smile on his face. The first day he did it I thought he was just being funny, but when he said it again the second day a question probed my heart. Why don’t you say that when you leave the house in the morning? I couldn’t answer and the question pointed in deeper, Why don’t you believe that when you wake up in the morning? Now this man was a professor and a researcher and probably did save the world to some degree by the discoveries he made, but what about me? The Savior of the world lives inside of me! Just the other day we went to do a job for a different middle aged couple. They were nice but the first thing the man said to us after we had discussed the logistics of the job was. “Did you watch the news this morning?” Then he proceeded to tel

Questions and Answers

"King Jesus" By: Lindsey When I was little my dad used to read a Bible story to Allison, Betsy and I and then he’d have us draw a picture about it. (Okay, we may have only done this three times!) But I loved it! These fond memories inspired me to do the same for my little siblings. I do it a little different but I’m the “Bible Lesson” lady. Whenever I’m left in charge of the kids, one of them always asks me, “Are we doing a Bible lesson?” or “Can we watch a Bible show?” I don’t do the lessons as often as I’d like, but I love it when I do it and I enjoy watching animated Bible videos with the kids. I love seeing their interest in the Word. With all these lessons comes a LOT of questions. Questions I’d love to answer, but even with all my own personal studying of the Word, genealogies, timelines, there are still some questions the Bible just doesn’t answer. “Was Pilot nice?” Hmmm… what should I say? He wasn’t extremely nice seeing as he let them crucify Je

A Night at the Amusement Park

There’s a curious phenomenon. How can you take kids, outside in the heat for physical exertion and they come in more energized? Well that’s what happened tonight, the kids spent the afternoon in their little pools and they still came in running! They couldn’t hold still as my mom got their pj’s on and brushed their hair. Then when they were done, Alexis and Abby picked up a piece of yarn and started running around the house screaming! I was reheating leftovers in the kitchen as they passed back and forth and couldn’t help but think, this sounds just like an amusement park. (-: You know, when you walk under the rollercoaster. Then I looked out into the living room to see my dad falling asleep on the couch! My bedroom is under the playroom and so for the most part I don’t even notice all the banging and crashing overhead while I write my books. (It is always fun when my parents visit my room because they are always surprised by the noise level! “Oh, that? I don’t even notice anym
